Jak vypadá angličtina u školáků?

Andy přinesl do Mozaiky nejen britskou angličtinu, ale také profesionální didaktické a lingvistické postupy, protože angličtinu studoval. Přestože z psaného textu je těžké získat konkrétní představu o tom, jak se děti zapojují a co všechno se naučí, poprosila jsem Andyho, aby zapsal průběh jedné z lekcí, na které jsem se byla podívat.

Model Lesson in Primary

Lesson aim

The target vocabulary for the lesson was the names of different animals, whilst applying the grammar taught in the previous lessons, which in this case was comparatives and superlatives.

Step one

The first activity involved pre teaching the names of the different animals using images and spoken practice (model pronunciation followed by students repetition).

Step two

Students were encouraged to offer what they already knew on the topic e.g warm and cold blooded animals.

Step three

Following this, students were divided into two separate groups where they were tasked with ordering the animals into different categories or ranking them in order e.g biggest to smallest, most to least dangerous.  Both groups had the same set of animals.

I then modelled to both groups the target sentences e.g. crocodiles are more dangerous than lizards and then repeated the pronunciation of the key vocabulary when needed.

When both groups were finished, we did a whole group discussion on what they found.

Step four

The final activity involved all the students and it was a game of hangman which used the vocabulary from the lesson in a fun and engaging way to wrap up the lesson.

Summary

This lesson is effective for students of all levels because everyone is given the opportunity to learn new vocabulary and for the students who are already aware of these words they are able to practice their grammar and are challenged with additional vocabulary.
